Almost every day one of our shoppers asks what the differences are between the Panasonic EP-MA70 massage chair and the Panasonic EP-MA73 Massage chair? Since Panasonic massage chairs aren’t widely held in stores that sell massage chairs we wanted to write up a quick comparison to give you a better idea of what the differences are between these two massage chairs. The Panasonic EP-MA70 was released in 2011 and for a long time was the top of the Real Pro Ultra line of massage chairs until the release of the EP-MA73 a few months ago, and already since its release it has become one of our best sellers. Check out the full comparison below and see exactly what has improved in the latest release from Panasonic.
Panasonic EP-MA73 vs Panasonic EP-MA70 Massage Chair Comparison
To truly compare these two massage chairs, you have to understand how the EP-MA73 came to be. Panasonic took feedback from several users regarding their use of the Ep-MA70, what they liked, what they didn’t and things they thought should be improved in the massage chair and redesigned and built the EP-MA73 from there. The MA73 is designed to be the perfect upgrade from the EP-MA70.
How They Look
Aesthetically, the EP-MA70 and EP-MA73 are almost identical, there are only a few differences that make it obvious, and those include the arm rests, the EP-MA70 has wood grain armrests, while the EP-MA73 has an all-black leather armrest with silver accents. Other than that it can be difficult to tell these two apart.
Mechanically is where the EP-MA73 really starts to differentiate itself. Panasonic received feedback about the back massage being incredibly strong in the lower back regardless of what setting the 3D massage was set on, so they redesigned the massage track and improved the massage roller to provide a much more smooth experience across your back. The EP-MA73 still includes the heated massage roller that was introduced in the EP-MA70 but has placed it on this new track to soften the experience and make it seem much more realistic.
The arm massage & foot massage has been improved in the EP-MA73, the airbags have been redesigned to hit different acupoints across your hands and arms. There is a new massage technique used on the arms in the Panasonic EP-MA73 as well, which is “Ultra-kneading” This is a different method of inflating the airbags and using the little nodules on the armrest to administer a much more realistic kneading massage on your arms.
They lightened up the foot massage a little bit with fewer nodules, and added heat, so the massage is much more gentle, but still very effective. Panasonic also changed how the massage works, instead of pressing you down on the nodules; it gently presses you down on them and then rocks you back and forth, for an added benefit across your feet.
Ergonomic Arm Rests
One of the more important upgrades that Panasonic made to the EP-MA73 over the EP-MA70 are the armrests, that adjust to the recline of the massage chair. In the EP-MA70, the arm rests would stay stationary which would make it difficult and uncomfortable to get the full experience while reclined. In the new Panasonic EP-MA73, the armrests move with the recline of the massage chair, keeping them perfectly in place and maintaining the comfort of the massage no matter what position you are in. This loss of the arm massage in the recline position is a common problem for most massage chairs, but obviously the new Ep-MA73 doesn’t suffer from that issue.
The Panasonic EP-MA73 also had the stretching abilities improved, with new techniques that focus on the neck, shoulder blades, lower body and hips to ensure nothing is left out when you are finished with your massage.
There is a significant price difference between these two chairs, but we definitely believe the vast improvement in technology and experience more than makes up for the price, however if price is an issue, the Panasonic EP-MA70 is still an excellent massage chair that is one of the few that features a heated 3D massage roller.
